Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Discussions Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a fresh playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but features several notable adjustments:

  • Each team has just eight human participants, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities performed by human gamers award full XP, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.

In short, the playlist lives up to its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it gives more options for gamers looking for different ways to enjoy the title. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are upset.

Player Responses: From Fury to Praise

"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," reads a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and someone else details all the issues they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

However, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this title all the time. Let them strike a balance," states another. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Concerns and Player Input

Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it will make wait times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, a major complaints is that a previous feature was meant to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the community meeting them halfway, as per forum feedback. A different user labels this mode as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
