Citizens have gathered across the country to commemorate 24 months since the Hamas-conducted offensive on 7 October 2023, as discussions continued in the neighboring country over an end to the hostilities in the Gaza Strip.
The attack saw in excess of 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others abducted back to Gaza as captives. It was the single most fatal day for Jewish people since the Holocaust.
Israel answered by launching a armed campaign in Gaza which has claimed more than 67,000 people, as reported by the region's Hamas-run health ministry. Its numbers are considered accurate by the UN and other world agencies.
"The aggressive adversaries have hit us hard, but they have not overcome us," the prime minister added on that day.
He also vowed to "realize all the objectives of the war: the homecoming of all the abducted, the elimination of the Hamas regime and the guarantee that Gaza will no longer create a threat to Israel".
The government authorities delayed official memorials until mid-October - after the end of the festive season - but gatherings still took place around the country on Tuesday.
A commemorative event for the relatives of Israelis who died in the Hamas assault was held in Tel Aviv. Put together by the affected families, it was aired throughout Israeli TV networks.
A period earlier, a moment of silence was observed throughout the country.
At the same time, Israeli and Hamas negotiating teams gathered in the Egyptian tourist destination of the negotiation venue for a follow-up session of third-party negotiations to discuss the conditions of the proposal.
A prominent delegate involved in the talks said that an evening round of mediated discussions commenced at evening in Egypt.
The official stated the earlier meeting finished without concrete outcomes, amid differences over the suggested Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over assurances Hamas wants to ensure Israel does not resume fighting after the opening period of the agreement.
He commented that the talks are "tough and have yet to produce any significant progress," but noted that facilitators are making efforts to reduce the differences between the conflicting groups.
In the city's memorial area that day, young Hagar - whose sibling endured the assault on the Nova music festival, where 378 people were killed and many more were captured by Hamas militants - shared: "No place feels like home anymore and until each abducted person return no one will be secure."
"After we see everyone home once more, we can breathe again. Then we can commence heal," she added.
Outside the leader's official dwelling in Jerusalem, people gathered to express their support for the families of the abducted. Israel says nearly fifty continue in confinement in Gaza, twenty of whom are considered to be living.
Activist a participant stated: "It's necessary do any agreement necessary for the hostages to be released. But we really want guarantees that we will be safe."
Research now consistently show that approximately seventy percent of Israelis prefer the conflict to finish in exchange for the liberation of the abducted.
At the location of Nova festival, mourners gathered to pay their respects.
From that location, the boom of military attacks and shelling could be heard just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where observers indicated the severe Israeli shelling persisted.
In Gaza City, attacks were reported in the dawn of Tuesday in the west side district, Rimal and zone districts and in the eastern district of that sector, as well the settlement to the north-west.
"When the evening arrives, the fear appears with it," evacuated Gaza City resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose teenage son was died by an Israeli aerial attack earlier, explained.
"My family are fearful of the bombings. During nighttime we are lying together, clinging, especially my little child who places his face on me throughout the night."
"Constantly we monitor the updates to see the situation. And I'm worried that this halt will not be finalized and that the war will resume to us."
The healthcare center in Gaza City reported it had received the corpses of six people by the afternoon, including three who died in an Israeli strike in the southern al-Sabra neighbourhood.
Another medical facility in the southern urban center of the city reported additional dead people had been delivered. A person was died by Israeli soldiers while attempting to get help to the southern area, health workers said.
The territory's health ministry reported 25 of the {territ
