Manchester United Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the WSL side.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be building momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
