New York Unveils Reporting Tool for Residents to Report ICE Videos Following Detentions of Four American Citizens

New York state AG has launched a fresh online portal asking residents to share photos and videos of immigration raids across New York. This move follows a shortly after a significant immigration operation disrupted NYC's Chinatown, prompting mass demonstrations.

US Citizens Arrested In Raid

A lawmaker disclosed during a midweek briefing that four citizens were taken into custody and kept for "about 24 hours" after the enforcement action. Rallies occurred in New York on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

"Each citizen deserves to exist without intimidation," the AG declared in a release.

"If you witnessed and captured ICE activity recently, I ask you to submit that evidence with the authorities. We are pledged to examining these submissions and determining any violations of law."

Portal Features

The platform provides spaces to send visual evidence of the operation, plus a field to specify location information. When submitting, users must mark a checkbox that states that "authorities could utilize any documents, photographs, or videos in a public document, including in a lawsuit or government document."

Information about the ICE Action

The Chinatown raid, which witnesses say involved more than 50 ICE personnel, took place in a famous district of the city where imitation purses, items, goods and other goods are regularly available widely – often to tourists.

Videos of Tuesday's raid show numerous hooded and equipped personnel securing and holding a person, and pushing back witnesses. Masses of locals trailed the agents along the roads. An armored truck was observed traveling down the Manhattan avenues.

Outrage over the immigration operation escalated – every political contenders denounced the operation, as did Governor Kathy Hochul.

"Once again, the federal government opts for oppressive displays that instill panic, not safety. It has to end," a political candidate wrote.

New York City advocacy organizations expressed outrage too.

"Immigration agents descended on Chinatown in NYC with military-style vehicles, hooded officers and riot gear to focus on local sellers working to survive. This action had no relation to community security and everything to do with terrorizing immigrant families and communities," remarked the president of a rights organization.

Agency rules forbids the arrest of American nationals and the organization has stated it does not arrest or detain American nationals. Nevertheless, independent reporting has discovered that more than 170 US citizens have been held against their will by immigration authorities since the beginning of the present government.
