A prominent South African radio and club DJ has been murdered in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country struggling with rampant crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was attacked in the central business district on a Tuesday afternoon.
Officials stated the forty-year-old presenter was approached by a trio of assailants, with one began shooting at him before fleeing on foot.
The motive of the shooting has not been established and no suspects have been apprehended are in custody, according to authorities.
Authorities revealed that Stock was targeted as he was departing from a premises near the Carlton Centre.
He had devoted time at the building supervising the setup of security systems, which had been controversially occupied by unidentified individuals, according to reports.
"Authorities believe the deceased was confronted by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they opened fire at him before escaping on foot," authorities stated.
Security camera video reportedly captured a man with dreadlocked hair and dressed in what looked like a protective services outfit firing shots on Stock before fleeing.
The DJ attempted to flee after he was shot but succumbed to his injuries a short distance away.
Officials noted that Stock had an unused firearm and it was not a robbery during the attack.
Crucial forensic evidence, like bullet casings, were recovered from the crime scene.
Officials are asking anyone who saw the event who may have seen the suspects to contact them.
"Our information indicates they traveled on foot after the shooting, and officers have been tracking them to find their whereabouts," stated a police chief.
His sister, a close relative, stated the family was struggling to come to terms with the loss.
"I am in shock. I cannot express the pain," were her words.
"Everyone understood he was a representative for countless citizens. He was a fearless commentator about issues not many people were willing to discuss. This is a profound tragedy."
She urged the public to not sharing explicit content from the incident, explaining this was an deeply traumatic time, particularly for Stock's three sons.
Stock was the host of Ngicel' iVisa, a series that was broadcast on a popular local TV network.
In addition to his work in broadcasting, Stock was engaged in various business ventures, including protective services, providing VIP protection services and managing safety for prestigious gatherings across South Africa.
He was also reportedly involved in real estate operations and assisted with tenant removals.

A government minister commented he was angry and saddened by Stock's killing.
