Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was expected for concerns to be raised about his position following a further convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool endured their 9th loss in 12 matches, marking the club's poorest streak since being relegated in 1953-54.

They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a difficult night at their home ground.

“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received plenty of support from management,” Slot stated.

“It would be great to reverse this trend and get a victory naturally but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it's typical that doubts arise.”

He added, “I accept my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we turned it around.”

Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:

“We communicate frequently. They are supportive to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they back me.”

He added, “Through standard conversations we have I perceive the confidence. But I've not talked to them after this game yet so we'll see.”

Familiar Problems and Squad Reaction

The manager lamented known failings from his team in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his view of the club’s predicament.

“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones remarked.

“It is unacceptable. I don't have to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the words.”

He went on, “It's difficult because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club all my life.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a phase such as this with results this poor.”

Jones finished, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until it is removed, we’re always going to battle.”

“We’re going to try to get this team return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and why people call it the top club in the planet.”

“But right now, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
