During a surprising event, this iconic Louvre Museum ceased operations after an audacious heist during which thieves get away with nine valuable artifacts.
While specifics are still emerging, reports indicate a trio of masked individuals broke into the gallery just after it opened today.
The thieves are said to have used a construction lift that was part of ongoing restoration activities to enter the famous gallery room, located on the Seine River wing.
This elaborately decorated chamber contains the remnants of the French crown jewels. In order to enter, the thieves smashed windows before making their getaway with the stolen artifacts.
Those responsible are believed to have fled using a motor-scooter. Authorities are actively evaluating the estimated value of the haul, while the Louvre stays shut for tourists for the time being.
